@InsertANameHere Yes, but "ser un idiota" naturally means "to be an idiot" but if the person who is speaking thinks the other person's behavior (no matter if it is being mean, stubborn, or anything else) is part of being an idiot, then you can say that. You could be telling me that you don't like people with two dads instead of a mom and a dad, and if I consider that is part of being an idiot, I can use that expression.

"No seas un idiota" is the most generic one between countries.

@nicolasmagnabosco Thanks, I appreciate it! So "idiota" can be used in Spanish to refer to not just a stupid person, but a mean person as well, if I'm understanding correctly?

I hope I don't get strikes for this but in Argentina it will be "No seas hijo de puta!" meaning "don't be unfair/mean" (with me or someone else).
Don't know it this applies in mexican Spanish.

@alvaro_mac Gotcha, thanks! It would literally translate to "Don't be a son of a bitch," which I suppose fits 😂
- Español (México)
@InsertANameHere Yes but, to me, it seams link in the US "son of a bitch" has more weight than in Argentina 😂
In Argentina you could say that behind someone's back and even if you get busted there would not be ill will. In most scenarios at least...
In the US I imagine you could get fired for it.

@alvaro_mac It depends on the work culture. In my job (aircraft mechanic), there's a lot of swearing, and it wouldn't be a big deal. In other places, you could get in a lot of trouble for it.
