What a system of education is in the USA?
Being native American, do you like it or would you like to study in other country?
As for me, I'm Russian and I don't like the system of education in my country, and I don't advise to choose Russia as a country for getting higher education.

Many American students do not like our education system. Most schools use the Common Core system and it is not effective. Additionally, the new Secretary of Education (Betsy DeVos) does not know anything about public education.

Most of the time we are taught simply to pass a standardized test and there's usually no room for anything else. I don't think it fosters creativity or new ideas.

There are several holes and problems with the American educational system. Especially with the new secretary of education Betsy DeVos, who wants to privatize schools, which only good for those at the top, and doesn't really benefit the students. In addition to that, American schools focus all in data and numbers, not on individual student needs. It's all about getting good grades so the school looks good to pull in money and students. Filled seats in high rigor classes means more money for the schools. Higher test scores means more money for the school. Everything American schools do revolves around money. They'll spend less money on healthy school lunches, the arts, and life skills (such as how to balance a check book or how to get a job) then they will with high school football or AP Classes (advanced placement) to get money. Another big complaint Americans have about American schools is how they teach. A lot of schools teach ONLY material that's on the EOC (end of course exam, usually administered by the district) or on the AP Exam. If it's not on the exam teachers don't teach it. Lots of students and parents feel that this is not an effective way to learn when you're learning to take a test, rather than learn life skills and apply what you learn in school too life. For example: Math classes will teach bizarre forms of math and teach you how to solve the problem as it'll appear on the big test; instead of teaching students how to apply it to their life, or how to use it in the modern world.
There are a lot of problems, I hope I helped :^)

I am a highschool student, and all of my friends are against the American school system. We take AP classes (special, high achievement classes). Many people here have depression because of the stress. I have four hours of homework every evening, and spend 8 hours at school.

I think that the public education system is relatively good compared to many other countries, at least if you are a student who takes advanced classes—they tend to have better teachers!
However, on-level or lower-level teachers tend to, like everyone has said, teach the bare minimum, but I think a huge part of the reason they do that is because of the culture surrounding education in the US. It is simply not valued enough by the children being educated. If we could emphasize the importance of education, across all ages, there wouldn't be so many kids sleeping through classes, cramming for tests instead of distributed practice, and ditching classes. The students who are struggling in their classes often get left behind. I used to work at a math tutoring center, and there were so many kids who had fallen over a year behind and couldn't catch up with their peers. This is because although many aspects of Common Core actually would increase students' understanding of many concepts (especially in math), nobody knows how to teach it properly!

It depends on what school you attend. My last school was too easy and I was way ahead of everyone in my class. This year my family moved me to an academy for high school and the curriculum is still easy, but harder than my last school. I plan to leave America for uni.
