It would sound better if you add the word "bit" at the end.

It's right, but I'd probably say, "I asked her to wait a bit."
"Told" sounds imperative, so I would be careful saying it about people equal to me. I'm a guy so I'd be comfortable saying it about another guy, but if it's a girl I'd prefer to stick to "asked".

@Kuroshin can i ask you why girls always use 'ask' whereas men have a choice which words to use?

No, you misunderstand. I'm sorry about that. I didn't say girls say "ask". Rather what I meant was if I was talking about a girl, I'd say "ask" because it's politer than "told". "Told" is like ordering someone, so I'd use it if I was talking about my guy friends, but if I was talking about a girl, or anyone socially superior to me, I'd say "ask".
Take these examples:
I'm talking about my guy friend:
"I told him to wait."
Talking about a girl:
"I ASKED her to wait."
I'd just personally be politer if I was talking about girls.
Both girls and guys have a choice. It's just a personal preference think, how polite you want to be.

I'm fine with "commanding" my guy friends to wait, but I wouldn't "command" a girl, I would request her. Just for the sake of politeness. Of course, you're not actually ordering or commanding anyone, it's just that "told" is linguistically a command whereas "asked" is a request.

@Kuroshin Thank you for the explanation. I wondered if there were some gender usage wording in English.
