@saramarie in this context of these phrases both can be used as totally interchangeable synonyms, but when time is the key word, "luego" is like "then" and "después" is like "after". Ex:

- Iré al cine después de cenar (I am going to the movies after dinner)

- Primero llegas al parque y luego me envías un mensaje de texto (First, you get to the park, then text me)

@saramarie do you mean something like: you have to learn to crawl before you learn to walk? if so:

Impersonal way:
- Tienes que ser estudiante primero antes de ser profesor.

Personal way:
- Primero tuve que ser estudiante antes de ser profesor.

like… i will ask questions to learn more or connect ideas to further my understanding (like a student) before i even think about teaching or telling or correcting someone else (like a teacher)
