There is no particular food that many Koreans eat in common when they feel sad. Each person eats what they want, quite a few Koreans seem to drink alcohol though.

Eating seaweed soup on birthday is a custom, but eating something when feeling sad is not a custom. There is no particular food that most Koreans commonly eat when they're sad, and everyone has their own way to make themselves feel better. Some people may just want to be alone eating almost nothing, while others prefer to meet close friends and chat eating their favorite food. Everyone is different.
I like eating 치맥(chicken and beer) or fried food. I rarely eat spicy food because I easily get an upset stomach after I eat spicy food. Some people eat pizza. I'd say people tend to eat the food they like. So the answers can be very diverse and different according to personal tastes.

I like this question and find it interesting as a German who currently studies a bit of Korean for my upcoming visit.
I think in western countries most men and some women will drink alcohol alone at home when they are sad (especially with a broken heart). Some will stay in bed and won't go to work. Many women also eat chocolate or ice cream or cake and cookies.
I really wonder that nobody here mentioned sweets. Do you Koreans like sweets or do you eat it mostly when you are happy?

@mammamia123 Whether feeling sad or not, 혼술(drinking alcohol alone at home) is common in Korea.
It isn't rare at all for Korean girls to eat some sweets when feeling sad. (But it isn't that common among men.) I'd say it's just less popular than drinking, at least among adults who drink. Almost all Korean children have a sweet tooth, but as for adults, they eat sweets when having a craving for sweets. I think Korean adults prefer a bit salty snacks rather than sweets, it depends on the person though.

@mammamia123 Some people eat sweets, but I wouldn't say it's very common. Btw some German sweets like Haribo gummy candies and Carvendish & Harvey candies are loved by many Koreans, especially Haribo. I see the tv commercial of Haribo gummy bears whenever I turn on the tv. lol.
