What does "is the biggest grin this side of Jack Nicholson's Joker" mean?
It doesn't take much to make Whoopy Goldberg smile. And her smile, as anyone who's seen "Ghost" and "Sister Act" knows, is the biggest grin this side of Jack Nicholson's Joker, and a lot more attractive.

Because in the old Batman film from the 80's, actor Jack Nicholson played the Joker, a character with a notoriously big, evil, grin. So if someone said "the biggest grin this side of Jack Nicholson's Joker" they are saying that someone has a huge grin like the character in the film.

It's definitely an older expression. Oftentimes people from the southern parts of the states are use these phrases in movies and stuff, but I'm not sure how accurate that is in real life.
