@markun 'got' is like a more casual 'became', 'he became married to her'. It's just an extra and unnecessary word, but both are common.

The first one means「彼は彼女と結婚した。」The second one means almost exactly the same thing, but has the slight nuance of「彼は彼女と結婚してもらった。」But this is very subtle, so they're essentially the same.

@_kai: I think you're right. I know the "got" here implies "received the action of" - I interpreted it as benefactive, but really it just adds another layer of time/"became" to it like you said. So that was me misinterpreting a neutral "got" as benefactive.
@markun: Hope I didn't confuse you! 「てもらう」and「てなる」are both expressed as "got" in English, and I misread which one you meant here. For the record, "got married" is definitely the most common way of expressing it!
