When someone threatens someone else they know they are threatening them and trying to scare them. Someone could intimidate someone else without knowing or meaning to. For example a kid might be intimidated by an older kid but the older kid does not know he is being intimidating.

To intimidate is more about impressions
-He was an intimidating person
To threaten is more about imposing harsh conditions and possible consequences
-He threatened me when I didn't deliver the letter

Intimidate is not physical contact, is only with image.
Threaten is more physical violence.
example The balloon fish increase its size to scare other animals, without harming, but the cobra snake threatens you with a bite if you get to close

Threaten is more aggressive. Sort of like a warning from person about to do something if they don't do something.
Example
" The man was threatening to punch the boy."
Intimidate is more like a uneasy presence of the person.

" The large, muscular man was intimidating."
