'오호라'는 성경에 나온 말입니다.
"烏號라!": 烏(까마귀 오), 號(부르짖을 호)라!" = 까마귀가 우는구나!
한국에서는 옛날에, 까마귀가 우는 것은, 누군가가 죽었거나 누군가가 죽을 거라고 생각했습니다.
그래서 까마귀가 울면 불길하다, 좋지 않다고 생각하였죠.
따라서, "오호라"는 "마음이 너무나도 슬프다"나 "아아!"하며 탄식하는 말이 됩니다. 영어로는 "Alas!"에 해당됩니다.
성경을 번역할 때에 지금부터 약 100여년 전에 중국어로 된 한자성경을 한국어로 번역하였고, 그 당시에 한국의 지식인들이 알 만한 감탄사를 사용하여 번역하였기 때문에 저 말을 쓴 것입니다.
요즘에는 "오호라!"라는 말을 사용하지 않으며, 오직 한글 성경에만 남아있는 말입니다.
