In Canada, most children are introduced to Quebecois around grade 3 in school. Quebecois is like French, but with some differences. We usually just called it French. I am trying to learn Japanese. There are other language speaking schools you can join. My friend's son is in a polish bilingual learning school and another is in a Spanish bilingual school. So, there are other options to learning another language other than French, but French is the main one. Most public school attempts to introduce you to it.

I started learning French in kindergarten (in a private school in Ontario) and continued learning it up until high school, where I switched schools and the French was too simple for me to take. A lot of my friends in elementary went to Chinese schools where they practiced reading and writing Chinese characters, and there are other, smaller schools where students can learn different languages (usually languages of the community, so a community with a lot of Korean people might have Korean as a second language option).
In my high school, you can take international languages through the school board over the weekend. For example, I took Arabic for a year, but some of my friends took Tagalog or Portuguese.
Besides that, many people in Canada learn second languages from their parents at home, as it will be the spoken language that they grow up with, though they don't necessarily study it.
(For opinions sake, French is my second language, German and Urdu are my parents' languages I'm learning, and Japanese is the extra language I'm also studying)

In Canada French is normally a second language. I was in the English program so we had French classes to teach French as a secondary language but there is also a French program so you learn mostly everything in French. Most places in Canada require you to know both French and English for most jobs too. As English is my first language I prefer speaking English but French is really important as well here with so many French speakers

French is available as course everywhere, otherwise it depends where you live, though German and Spanish also seem quite common. I live in Alberta, so there are a lot of Ukrainian and Cree classes do to those groups making up a large part of the population and their influence on the province.

@tunachan The classes I took in elementary school were for kids who grew up speaking French, and in high school the classes were for kids who were learning French slower, so the stuff in that class was the stuff we did in middle school, so it was too easy for me. French is definitely still a hard language haha! You're welcome.

In Canada its mandatory to learn French until grade 9, of high school, then after that most schools have only French as an elective that you can take (some schools have Spanish and Italian, however that is kind of uncommon)

@tunachan Most kids (at least in my school) did not like learning French though. They preferred leaning Spanish. But I stuck with French because it would be good for getting jobs in Canada.
