Perhaps you mean an "underpainting" then? (Search this on google images to confirm it's the same thing)

The translation for "glacis" is "glaze" but that is a final transparent coat, not the first coat.

@katiem415 Le glacis is also the first coat then the superposed layers, actually I confused myself.

@katiem415 That what I did :D I realized my definition of " glacis " in French was half wrong😸
It's not necessary a first coat but all thin layer of transparent colors superposed. I always said glacis for the first then " couche par couche " for other...sweating
