晚上好 is generally used when you want to wish another person "good evening" or "have a great evening"

For instance, at the start of a program, the emcee may say:
大家晚上好！谢谢你们出席我们今年的盛会。

晚安 is used before you leave a place in the evening or at night or before you sleep. It has the same usage as "good night"

At the end of a night, performer may say:

刚才的演出是我们团队今年最后一次的表演。
谢谢你们一直以来的支持。我们明年再见。晚安！

There is no direct translation for this.
In Malay, Selamat Malam is like Good Night in English, to wish someone farewell in the evening.
For 晚上好 to greet someone in the evening, you use the regular greeting Apa Khabar? in Malay, which literally means What's the news?
