Ok, both mean like this in Spanish, but we use it for different contexts... Although its como este/a instead of como esto.
We use como este/a to indicate things.
We use así to indicate actions.
Example:
Quiero un jardin como este.
Yo tenia una falda como esta.
Mira, bátelo así.
El carro se lava así.

Como esto = Like this
Así = just like that - just like this and sometimes "so"
Lo quiero como esto = I want it like this
Lo quiero así = I want it just like this
Así que fuimos por esto = So we went for this

este = this ( so similar to "esto")
éste = this (masculine pronoun)
ésta = this (femenine pronoun)
