@sanzar I think "beginning" or "start" would be the opposite since a destination is where you are going to and the "start" or "beginning" is where you are leaving. Hopefully that makes sense!

@Languagirl Origin is a bit more than a starting point, and is usually tied to a description of a background of some kind. For example "Their country of origin is India." In this sentence while I am using it to show they are from a location. I am also saying that this is where they are originally from. Describing where someone was raised or born would be a way of using origin.

I get what you're trying to say, it makes sense. But say you want to move to Italy, but you come from Spain, then Italy is your destination and Spain your origin am I right?

@Languagirl If that is your country of origin than that would be fine to say. However you are saying more than just Spain is the starting point. You are saying that you originate from spain. As in your background is of Spanish decent, or you were born and raised in spain. It's a description of a background usually when attached to a location but doesn't have to be. Otherwise origin would be used for answering questions about what caused something to exist. Such as "The origin of black holes is still a mystery to us, but recent studies have shown that they may be formed by collapsed stars." Hope that makes sense!
