A house is a building people live in.

A home can be where you are from; even a country. You can live somewhere else and it is still your home. Sometimes, it just refers to a house.

"I went to Hamid's house yesterday."

"Portugal will always be my home."

Agreed: a house is the building where somebody lives, a home is the place that somebody considers as the place that they are connected to. It usually is their current house/apartment and can also refer to the place they grew up in.

We would not refer to an apartment as a "house".
Usually we would not refer to another persons "home", only our own.
