News flash: a single important item that is broadcast and often interrupts other programs.

But since you saw this in a drama, its meaning should be something like "pointing out something important or obvious"

E.g.
"My boss told me to work overtime AND weekends. News flash, I don't want to"
"My friends asked me why I wasn't going to school. News flash, my leg's broken."

I feel like I almost get it but not quite.
You mean... Do you use the phrase when you tell the reason why you do or don't something? And, the reason is so obvious or important...?

@there47282377 Generally some type of important information comes after the phrase. To be honest I haven't used or heard it used in a while so I can't give you the best explanation. There may be other ways to use it but I can't think of any right now.
