I'm confused about the word χρόνος for year
The plural is τα χρόνια which I have been taught τα relates to plural neuter nouns.
but then I see η χρονιά which is plural feminine noun
however there is no το χρόνο (singular neuter noun) or οι χρονιές ( plural feminine noun)
please can someone help explain the gender singular and plural words for Year/Years and when to use which and why it is that way.
thank you...

typically it's ο χρόνος(singular masc) - οι χρόνοι (plural masc) / η χρονιά (singular fem) - οι χρονιές ( plural fem) , but in plural we mostly use τα χρόνια(plural neut) which you are right, it doesn't have singular form as far as I know

@galinos26: Ο χρόνος (m, s) οι χρόνοι (m, pl)
Η χρονιά (f, s) οι χρονιές (f, pl)
Then there's τα χρόνια (n, p) but there is no neuter singular for year why is that and can you or someone please give an example of how we would use each in an example?

When do you use masculine and feminine χρόνια and χρόνος;
- Griego
We can use 'ο χρόνος' for either 'time' and 'year'
'Tα χρόνια' does not have singular type and it is the most often word for 'the years'
- Griego
Using masculine or feminine 'χρονιά' or 'χρόνος' it is just about the same.

Ευτυχισμένος ο καινούργιος χρόνος= Happy new year
Ξεκινάει η νέα σχολική χρονιά=the new school year starts
when you want to use plural, you usually say "τα χρόνια" as it sounds more natural
