The meanings are the same, but the connotations are just slightly different. The first one is more formal, and is more like how people write and less like how people speak. The first one also spends more of the sentence talking about the time, so it places a stronger emphasis on the time length. When speaking, I'd go with the second one. When writing, I'd go with the first.
