You must be watching Game of Thrones. 😊 Great question, I’ll try. Kingdom refers to an area that is under the rule of a monarch. I think of realm as meaning the land and its people, without regard to political boundaries or who is in charge.

So, for example, if there is a country with a king/queen, it can be referred to as a kingdom. But if it that king is overthrown tomorrow, it can’t be called a kingdom anymore. But the country with its people can be called a realm both before and after the change.
