I recommend you live in a large city like Tokyo. This is becasue there are much more Japanese people in big cities who can communicate in English, compared to rural areas. And places such as restaurants and stations generally have menu cards or signs written in English. Even if you are not good at Japanese, you will have little trouble communicating in English.
