These apples in my hands.
Those apples in that tree over there.
There are other ways to use them, but this is the big difference.

It’s about how far an item is from you. Both are plural.
If the item is near you, use these. If it is far away, use those.
These flowers that I’m holding are beautiful.
These people next to me are my friends.
Those flowers over there are beautiful.
I want one of those bags from that shop across the road.
