Why do American people always make fun of Canadians in their TV shows?
Why do American people always make fun of Canadians in their TV shows?
Besides the "Canadian being super nice" stereotype, there are always jokes about your prononciation of the word "about" as "aboat". For that I did some searches on Youtube and found it not so true. Apart from all these, I've also learnt other stereotypes although they are not as often repeated as the former ones are.
I mean, once or twice might be funny, but keeping saying something that's not true yet misleading to people who don't know Canada well is not so funny... I don't mean to provoke so I didn't ask the question under the US sector, and I'd like very much to know your opinions. Do you find it kinda annoying or offensive? Thank you.

I’ve lived in Canada my whole life and I have never heard a Canadian in my life say “about” as “aboat” EVER. I don’t know where it came from. 😂

Most Canadians as a majority are polite so the polite stereotype is kind of true. Americans tend to mock everyone in every country albeit in a distasteful way that only Americans find funny but they mock Canada way more because we are their neighbour and we have a buddy relationship. If they say things like "Canada is America's hat" we reply with "America is Canada's underwear". The only thing I am not okay with about their mockery is when they mock Canadians, it's funny, but when Canadians mock American's they get offended. Double standards is a common thing in American society and because of it they are often viewed as immature in general. Like you can't mock someone and expect them to not respond in the same sense. USA will be USA. 😐

Canadians have a good sense of humour and learn to laugh at themselves. They take it in stride, with one big eye roll 🙄

Yea I’m in Canada for my whole life as well, and I notice Americans think we speak like British people and say “about” in a weird way, but to me, we say about just like Americans so I don’t notice a difference but they think there is a difference
