Ghastly: unpleasant, causes fear. horror, can also mean someone who looks or feels unwell.
"I went to see Jane yesterday, and she looked just ghastly." (She didn't look healthy and well, she looked pale and sick).
"The cut on her arm was ghastly; I couldn't even look at it!" (The cut was awful to look at, and made me feel a bit sick / fearful).
Lousy: poor, not good, bad quality, disgusting
"The food here is really lousy." (It doesn't taste good at all).
"The service last night was lousy!" (The restaurant had bad service).
Terrifying: very scary, frightening
"That haunted house was terrifying! I didn't think we'd make it out alive!"
"The horror movie was terrifying! I couldn't sleep after watching it."
"Spiders are terrifying. Even seeing a picture of one scares me!"
Frightful: scary, terrible, unpleasant, shocking, horrible, gross, awful
"Those hotel rooms were frightful!" (They were terrible, unclean, and I am shocked that they were so bad!)
"When I was home alone, I heard frightful sounds coming from the basement." (The sounds coming from the basement scared me, and I felt uneasy and surprised to hear them).
Dreadful: something that causes suffering, fear, unhappiness, an action that one hates doing, poor or bad
"This homework is dreadful." (I hate doing my homework; it's difficult, and I'm not enjoying it at all).
"His manners are dreadful." (He is not very well-behaved. He is rude.)
"I cut my finger and the pain is dreadful!" (It hurts so much!)
I would say that terrifying is most used when speaking. Lousy is also quite common as is dreadful. Ghastly and frightful you probably won't hear as often.

They're all "scary", except "lousy" which means "not very good".
