@outsmartu: I'm afraid not,
We usually use 厘米 (cm)to measure . And normally we say 公分 (gōng fēn)to replaced 厘米 (lí mǐ) insead 。

But actually when you buy something on the Internet . Like TV , computer , 寸 or 英寸 are also use to described the measure .
So maybe you should keep them all in your mind . Haha
But trust me , we definitely more often used cm 厘米=公分 in our daily life

As a measurement unit, there in no difference between 寸 and 英寸. In other Chinese expression,寸 refers to small quantity.
1. 寸草不生 Barren - not even one inch of grass can grow here.
2. 一寸光阴一寸金,寸金难买寸光阴 Time is precious - One inch of time is worth one inch of gold, but it is difficult to buy that inch of time with one inch of gold.
英寸 is used merely as measurement unit(Imperial units).
For metic units, 1cm = 1公分(Used in Taiwan) or 1厘米(Used in Mainland China and most South East Asia countries)

@limsp: 寸和英寸是不一样的!!寸是中国的长度单位,英寸是英式的长度单位!!2者的长度单位根本不一样!!
我是大陆的,但是我们说厘米也是说公分,就像说千克一样,我们也是说公斤!
