n Japan times, there was a citation:
"'When it comes to energy and the environment, the American people expect common sense,' Bush said."

In the example above, it looks like the word "environment" is countable and he meant that they, American people are living in one unique environment so he added "the" before the word.
But wait, can they change their environment to another one? What is the border that we can say it is "the" environment and it is another one?
