はい、make for にはcauseとhead for という意味があります。
Head for
We made for the airport at about 6:30 in the morning, hoping to catch our flight in time.
cause
The beach made for a nice weekend.

The internet gave rise to stronger connections between people around the world.

The text book made for a good studying tool.
Bring about とgive rise toはどちらかというとgive rise toの方が広がりや規模が大きいですかね。
